Ballet Dance Classes

Ballet develops the foundations of excellent dance technique, improving posture, core strength, flexibility, musicality and artistry. Ballet transforms pupils into dancers and inspires them musically. The Royal Academy of Dance syllabi provide a sense of achievement for both children and teens dancing either for recreation or to pursue a career in dance. Our classes are graded from Pre-Primary up to Advanced 2 with opportunities to take part in festivals and competitions.

All classes are based on a creative syllabus designed to develop the very young dancer. It emphasises development of body strength, co-ordination and the discipline necessary for the learning of classical ballet.

Pandora’s Ballet Dance Box (6+ years)

The classes really start moving as basic ballet skills are practiced and developed. Correct French terminology is slowly introduced as well as basic positions, port de bras and basic ballet movements. The class continues to be of a fun nature designed to stimulate imagination through creative movement and basic ballet skills. Opportunities exist to take a ballet examination and work toward receiving a medal, report and a beautiful certificate.

Children’s Graded Ballet Dance Classes

Beginning at age 7 years, slowly the demanding nature of true classical ballet is introduced at this level of ballet. Two weekly classes are required as the technical skills increase, and further steps at the barre and centre work are introduced. Classes should be increased if the budding ballerina or virtuoso dancer wishes to study the vocational graded syllabi.

Student Vocational Ballet Dance Classes

For the aspiring ballerina or male principal dancer, students start to increase their levels of ballet classes as this bridges the gap between the graded syllabi and the vocational syllabi. A minimum of three technique classes per week are required combined with pointe work and virtuosity classes. For the gifted and talented, we offer great opportunities to train with the associates of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT).

Irish Ceili & Step Dancing Classes

Riverdance and Lord of the Dance fans will learn both traditional and contemporary Irish dance styles – both light and heavy. This will build strength and establish familiarity with the music as our enthusiastic dancers begin with the fundamentals essential to traditional Irish dance, including foot placement, body alignment and the basic steps of the easy reel and easy jig. Having secured the basic technique pupils will learn the single jig, easy slip-jig and the hard reel, concentrating on technique and carriage, with a new focus on timing and listening skills.

As confidence grows, pupils may expand their speed and proficiency in the beginner dances as they begin hard shoe skills, learning the treble jig and hornpipe as they build strength and balance. Pupils begin hard shoe at the teacher's recommendation. Pupils successfully demonstrating all beginner level dances, with a solid understanding of techniques and steps will continue hard shoe skills with emphasis on style, rhythm and timing, moving on to more advanced reels, jigs and hornpipes. Great opportunities to take part in shows, displays and competitions.
