Examinations & Accreditation

We are proud to be an approved dance centre accredited by the world's leading examination board, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), a recognised school for pre-vocational dance and musical theatre by the Council for Dance in Education and Training and, an approved centre for LAMDA examinations. We are also an AQA and Edexcel centre for GCSEs, A levels, BTEC and NVQ examinations.

Examinations take place every term throughout the year in:

• Royal Academy of Dance (RAD): Ballet
• Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD): Modern, Ballet, Tap, National and Classical Greek
• International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA): Disco Freestyle, Ballroom and Latin, Tap, Ballet and Modern
• London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA): Performance Examinations (Acting, Devising Drama, Mime and Musical Theatre) and Communication Examinations (Introductory, Speaking Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance, Using Spoken English and Speaking in Public).
• Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM): Singing
• London College of Music (LCM): Singing
• Trinity Guildhall: Singing

Although optional, examinations are designed to equip pupils whatever their age and aspirations with a range of skills, including technique and performance that will serve them throughout life. Pupils are entered for examinations from 5 years of age to professional level. Examinations give a real sense of achievement and, upon success, performers are rewarded with a report, certificate and medal which all adds to the sense of achievement.

LAMDA/Trinity Guildhall

Both the LAMDA and Trinity Guildhall examination boards are accredited as an awarding body in England and the corresponding regulatory authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland. The examination qualifications are now part of the national qualification framework and equate with other qualifications within the sector. The Advanced level graded speech and drama examinations have been included in the UCAS tariff, which covers all LAMDA examinations that are accredited by the National Qualifications Framework at Level 3.

Dance to Diploma Success

An exciting new partnership between the ISTD and Edexcel means that ISTD dance qualifications are now part of a mainstream nationally recognised qualification. Pupils who take the Creative and Media Diploma can use their ISTD dance qualifications to contribute towards the award.

The ISTD dance qualifications can be used as part of the specialist learning within the Creative and Media Diploma, and as additional learning in all other Diplomas. In addition, the ISTD offers four qualifications which have been specifically created so that Diploma pupils can start learning how to teach dance before they leave full time education.
